Telectroscope?

I’ve never heard of a telectroscope before but it looks pretty interesting…too bad we don’t have one here New York and London have one; what gives! Apparently people looking through the one in NY can see the people looking through the London one. Sounds cool, although is that whole toon town looking contraption really needed for a webcam?
